Triton Swept Source OCT Scan

OCT stands for Optical Coherence Tomography and is a way of taking very detailed pictures of your eye. The Triton OCT uses the latest swept source technology, allowing us to capture 3D images with more width, depth and detail than other devices. The Triton swept source OCT also allows us to examine blood flow within the retina (angiography), without the need to inject fluorescent dye.

The OCT scan is painless, takes just a few minutes to do, and gives us crucial information that helps us diagnose and monitor a wide range of eye disorders. OCT scans are commonly performed for the following conditions:

  • Age related macular degeneration
  • Retinal vein occlusion
  • Diabetes
  • Retinal detachment
  • Epiretinal membrane
  • Macular hole
  • Glaucoma

What will I experience during the scan?

Usually you will have eye drops to dilate your pupils before the scan. The Triton Swept Source OCT is safe, quick and comfortable. The scan makes no noise and takes just a minute or so for a comprehensive scan of both eyes.

You will see a large green cross to fixate on, but the scan itself is invisible to the human eye. There will be a flash of light as a high-resolution photo of the back of the eye is taken. Afterwards you will have an after image from the flash, similar to any other flash photo, but this fades rapidly.
